Privacy policy
Last updated: 25 October 2026
In short. Cueshot asks for no account, no email address and no phone number. The app is free and funded by advertising provided by Google AdMob.
Your tastes, services, playlist and settings stay on your phone. Ads use your phone's advertising ID; in Europe, the UK and Switzerland they are only personalised with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
1. Who is responsible?
Cyril Muller, sole proprietor (trade name Mark In Productions), France. Full details are in the legal notice. Contact: contact [at] cueshot-app.com.
2. Data stored on your phone
To work, Cueshot stores only on your device: your favourite genres, preferred length and draw mode; the services you selected; your playlist and the titles already offered or dismissed (to avoid repeats); your appearance and sound settings. This information is never sent to us or to anyone else. You can erase it at any time in Settings › Erase everything, or by uninstalling the app.
Checking for streaming apps
To offer the right services and open titles in the right app, Cueshot checks on your phone whether certain streaming and TV apps are installed (for example Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+). Only this fixed list is checked. The result is used for display only and is never transmitted.
Country and language
The catalogue country and the language are deduced on your phone from its settings. Cueshot does not use your location.
3. Data sent over the Internet
Catalogue searches
To find movies and series, the app queries our intermediate server, hosted by Google Cloud in Europe (Belgium), which forwards the request to The Movie Database (TMDB). The request only contains search criteria (country, language, genres, services, page): nothing about you. Like any website, the server technically receives your phone's IP address. It is used only to limit abuse and may appear in Google Cloud technical logs, kept for 30 days at most.
Posters are loaded directly from TMDB's image servers (image.tmdb.org), which therefore receive your IP address, as when visiting any website.
TV listings (France only)
In France, the TV guide is downloaded from the public site xmltvfr.fr, which receives your IP address. Nothing else is sent.
Two-phone Duo games
When you create or join a remote game with a code, the app uses Firebase (Google), hosted in Europe: an anonymous identifier is created for your phone (no name, email or number), and the game stores the 4-character code, the list of titles offered, your yes/no answers and the list of your services, to find the titles you have in common. The game is deleted when it ends, and abandoned games are deleted 30 days after creation at the latest. One-phone Duo games go through no server.
Opening services and sharing
When you tap “On Netflix”, “On Prime Video”, etc., Cueshot opens that app or website with the title. What happens next is governed by that service's privacy policy. Sharing uses your phone's share menu, towards the app you choose.
4. Advertising
Cueshot shows ads provided by Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland; Google LLC elsewhere). To show, measure and secure these ads, the AdMob kit built into the app processes: your phone's advertising ID, your IP address (from which an approximate location can be inferred), technical information about the device and the app, and your interactions with the ads.
Your consent
In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, a message asks for your consent on first launch, using Google's consent tool. With your consent, ads can be personalised to your interests. Without it, only non-personalised or limited ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time in Settings › Ads & privacy.
Everywhere, you can also reset or delete the advertising ID in your phone's Android settings (Privacy › Ads).
We do not pass your tastes, your playlist or the titles you watch to Google. How Google advertising works is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
5. Purposes and legal bases
| Purpose | Data | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Suggest titles to your taste | Local preferences, search criteria | Performance of the service you request |
| Play on two phones | Anonymous identifier, code, votes, services | Performance of the service you request |
| Show personalised ads | Advertising ID, IP address, technical data, interactions | Your consent (Europe, UK, Switzerland) |
| Show non-personalised ads, measure and prevent fraud | Advertising ID, IP address, technical data | Legitimate interest (funding the free service, security), or consent where the law requires it |
| Protect the server against abuse | IP address (temporarily) | Legitimate interest (security) |
6. Recipients and transfers
Our providers are Google (Google Cloud and Firebase, servers in Europe; Google AdMob for advertising, with its advertising partners), The Movie Database (TMDB, United States) for title information and posters, and xmltvfr.fr for French TV listings. When a provider is located outside your country or the European Union, the transfer relies on the safeguards provided by law (adequacy decisions, including the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, or standard contractual clauses). We do not sell your data for money.
7. Retention
- Data on your phone: until you erase it or uninstall the app.
- Two-phone Duo games: until the end of the game, 30 days at most.
- Server technical logs: 30 days at most.
- Advertising data: kept by Google under its own rules, described in its privacy policy.
8. Security
All communications are encrypted (HTTPS). Keys to the movie services stay on our server and are never stored in the app. Firebase access rules only allow each player to write their own answers.
9. Children
Cueshot is not intended for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any data about them. The ads are not designed for children.
10. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to object to and restrict its processing, and to data portability. Since Cueshot does not identify you, most of your data is already in your hands: you can erase it in Settings › Erase everything. For any request, write to contact [at] cueshot-app.com. We reply within 30 days.
You can withdraw your consent to personalised ads at any time in Settings › Ads & privacy; this does not stop you from using Cueshot.
11. Rules specific to your country
European Union, Norway, United Kingdom: the GDPR (and UK GDPR) applies. You may lodge a complaint with your data protection authority, for example the CNIL in France or the ICO in the United Kingdom.

Mexico and the rest of Latin America: you can exercise your rights of access, rectification, cancellation and objection (ARCO) by email at contact [at] cueshot-app.com.
United States and California: we do not sell personal information for money. Showing personalised ads may, however, count as “sharing” under California law (CCPA/CPRA). You can opt out at any time in Settings › Ads & privacy, or by turning off the advertising ID in your phone's settings.
12. Changes
This policy may change along with the app. The date at the top of the page shows the latest update. Any significant change will be announced in the app.
